Invited Guests
Ladies and Gentlemen
I would like to convey my warmest congratulations for the 45th anniversary of the
founding of the Kyoto Computer Gakuin and the 5th anniversary of the establishment
of the Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics. The two institutions of high learning have played a very significant role in the development of specialized training
in computer knowledge and informatics here in Japan and has attracted trainees from
several countries around the world. This is a great achievement which deserves high
praise.
Furthermore, the International Development Computer Education Program was
established in 1988 for the benefit of developing countries. More than 20 countries
have benefited from this program including my own country, Tanzania. It is really remarkable how the Hasegawa family single handedly succeeded in promoting
computer instruction over a vast part of the world extending to Asia, Europe, Africa and South America. I commend Ms. Yasuko Hasegawa and her team for this achievement.
Recently, the Kyoto Computer Gakuin decided to donate fifty computers to Tanzania
for use of students who would not enjoy full benefit of their training without such
essential equipment. I wish to express on behalf of my government, our sincere appreciation.
In conclusion, I would like to thank the organizers of this anniversary celebration for
inviting me here today and also for making it possible for a famous Tanzania singer, Ms.
Betty Enock to perform before such a distinguished audience. I hope you will enjoy
Betty’s singing and feel a little closer to Tanzania, the country of Mount Kilimanjaro, Serengeti National Park and the exotic Island of Zanzibar. I wish all the participants a wonderful celebration and above all a very enjoyable afternoon.
